" I TRANSLATE VISUAL TEMPERATURES "
Signe Emdal´s work combines a poets mind with the hands of a gardener, scanning nature with her sensitive eyesight and translating the informations into layers of landscape-like fiber constructions, tapestries, blankets, scarves, rugs, & photography, through a variety of textile machinery, raw yarns, fibers, cameras and techniques. She loves to create functional visual beauty with extraordinary craftsmanship skills.
EMDAL was founded in 2007 as a place for Signe to research profound substance, visual temperatures and natural light. The physical work from Signes hands always tend to radiate that familiar feeling of comfort while spending time in nature, and so her silent mission is to shine light on the incredible nature that keeps us all alive in this moment.
Born in 1979, Signe Emdal has a master in textile design from Design School Kolding (DK) in 2007 with additional apprenticeship at a local textile manufactor in the danish countryside. She worked widely across the design & art scene for the past ten years and is currently based in Copenhagen with her textile atelier.
Signe loves to make bespoke textiles, so please do get in touch.
FIBER ATELIER EMDAL
Based in Copenhagen next to the eastern sea, Signe Emdal creates her fiber art and textiles with industrial vintage textile machinery, raw natural yarns and experienced wise hands in her atelier.
The process is slow and meditative with all digital devices carefully on mute during the making. Techniques are constantly refined to allow ongoing innovation and a feeling of profound substance.
Additionally to her own machinery, Signe is working with high tech Jacquard looms at the Textile museum in Tilburg and also creating artworks for handmade rugs in collaboration with british: Floor Story.
